The easiest way from Hurghada Airport to your hotel is a pre-booked private transfer: your driver waits inside the arrivals hall, carries your bags and takes you straight to the door. Most hotels are 15 to 55 minutes away. Taxis also wait outside the terminal, but they aren’t metered, so agree the full fare before you get in.
Hurghada International Airport (HRG) is the gateway to Egypt’s Red Sea coast, from El Gouna in the north to Soma Bay and Safaga in the south. Whether you’re staying in town or at a resort an hour down the coast, here’s every way to get from the airport to your hotel, and what to expect when you land.

Private transfer: met inside arrivals
A private transfer is booked before you travel. You share your flight number and hotel, and your driver is waiting when you walk out of customs, usually holding a sign with your name. No queue, no haggling, no looking for the right car.
Prices are usually per car, not per person, which makes it good value for couples, families and groups. Before you book, check that the company tracks your flight, how long they wait if you’re delayed, and whether luggage and night arrivals are included in the price.

Taking a taxi from Hurghada Airport
Taxis wait outside the arrivals exit, and drivers often approach you as soon as you walk out. It works, but a few things make it much smoother:
- 1Agree the price first. Taxis aren’t metered. Settle the total fare, and the currency, before you get in or load your bags.
- 2Ask what’s included. Check that the price is per car, not per person, and that luggage doesn’t cost extra.
- 3Carry small notes. Drivers may not have change, especially late at night.
- 4Show where you’re going. Have your hotel’s name and location ready on your phone.
- 5Expect help with your bags. Someone may offer to carry your luggage. That’s normal, and a small tip is expected.
Hotel and package-holiday shuttles
If you booked a package holiday, a transfer is often included. A tour rep usually waits outside arrivals and directs you to a shared coach that drops guests at several hotels along the way.
It’s the cheapest option when it’s already paid for, but you’ll wait for the rest of the group, and the trip can take much longer than driving direct, especially if your hotel is the last stop. Some hotels run their own airport shuttle too, so ask your hotel before you travel whether it covers your flight time.
Ride-hailing apps
Ride-hailing apps are used in parts of Egypt, but coverage in Hurghada and pickups at the airport can be patchy and change over time. If you plan to use one, check that the app works for Hurghada before you fly, make sure you’ll have mobile data when you land, and keep a backup plan for late-night arrivals.
How long it takes to your hotel
Hurghada Airport sits just outside the city, so you’re never far from your hotel. These are typical drive times by private car. Shuttle coaches take longer because they stop at several hotels.
What happens after you land at HRG
Knowing the steps makes arriving much calmer. Here’s what to expect, from the plane to the road:
- 1
Off the plane
Depending on where your plane parks, you’ll either walk into the terminal or take a short bus ride across the apron.
- 2
Your visa, if you need one
Many nationalities can buy a visa on arrival at the bank counters before passport control, or apply for an e-Visa online before travelling. Check the current rules and fee for your passport before you fly.
- 3
Passport control
Have your passport, visa and hotel address ready. Queues can be long when several flights land at once.
- 4
Baggage reclaim
Collect your bags from the belt. On the way out, your luggage may be scanned again at customs.
- 5
Into the arrivals hall
This is where drivers, tour reps and taxi drivers wait. If you’ve booked a transfer, look for your name.
On the road
From here it’s 15 to 55 minutes to your hotel, depending on the area.
Arriving late at night
Many holiday flights land in the evening or after midnight. That’s when a pre-booked transfer helps most: no negotiating when you’re tired, and someone following your flight if it’s late.
Tips for a smooth arrival
Sort out mobile data
Set up an eSIM before you fly, or buy a local SIM at the airport, so you can message your driver.
Bring small notes
Keep a few small notes in euros or Egyptian pounds for tips and taxis.
Save your hotel’s location
Save it offline on your phone, with the name of the area, in case you need to show a driver.
Share your flight number
If someone is picking you up, give them your flight number, not just the time, so they can follow delays.
